Είναι δημοσιογράφος και έχει αποφοιτήσει από το Τμήμα Φιλολογίας του Πανεπιστημίου Ιωαννίνων, με κατεύθυνση κλασική. Έχει λάβει Master Διεθνών Σχέσεων από το Πανεπιστήμιο New School της Νέας Υόρκης και έχει παρακολουθήσει σεμινάρια στη Συστημική Δυναμική στο Πανεπιστήμιο Fordham καθώς και σεμινάρια για τις θρησκείες και τη διαφορετικότητα για τις ανάγκες των περιοδικών «Θεός και Θρησκεία» και «InfoReligion».
Έχει άριστη γνώση της αμερικανικής πολιτικής και των ελληνοαμερικανικών σχέσεων, αλλά και του Ελληνισμού της Διασποράς, με ιδιαίτερη έμφαση στον Ελληνισμό της Αμερικής.
Έχει πλούσια δημοσιογραφική εμπειρία καθώς από το 2000 έως σήμερα έχει αναλάβει την κάλυψη θεμάτων του Υπουργείου Εξωτερικών κυρίως για τις ελληνοτουρκικές σχέσεις, έχει συνεργαστεί με τα περιοδικά «God & Religion», «InfoReligion», το τουρκικό πολιτικό περιοδικό «AKSIYON», την τουρκική εφημερίδα «ZAMAN», τις εφημερίδες: «ΕΛΕΥΘΕΡΟΣ», «ΑΓΓΕΛΙΟΦΟΡΟΣ», «Ο ΚΟΣΜΟΣ ΤΟΥ ΕΠΕΝΔΥΤΗ», «ΠΡΩΤΗ», «Queens Ledger», το διαδικτυακό TGAnews, και τα περιοδικά «PRESS», «ΚΛΙΚ», «ΠΟΛΙΤΙΚΑ ΘΕΜΑΤΑ», «ΝΟΝ PAPER», «SYMBOL», «Ως3».
Έχει διατελέσει ανταποκρίτρια της εφημερίδας «ΑΞΙΑ», του ραδιοφωνικού σταθμού «Flash 96», της εφημερίδας Real News, της εφημερίδας ΕΠΕΝΔΥΤΗΣ. Είχε μόνιμη συνεργασία με το πολιτικό περιοδικό «ΕΠΙΚΑΙΡΑ» και με την εφημερίδα «ΕΛΕΥΘΕΡΟΣ ΤΥΠΟΣ». Από το 2008 έχει αναλάβει τη Διεύθυνση Σύνταξης στο ελληνοαμερικανικό πρακτορείο ειδήσεων Greek American News Agency (& είναι μέλος της ερευνητικής ομάδας) και από το 2013 είναι στη Διεύθυνση Σύνταξης της διαδικτυακής έκδοσης της ιστορικής εφημερίδας «Πρωινής» της Νέας Υόρκης, neaproini.us.
Παράλληλα έχει πλήθος συμμετοχών στη διοργάνωση διεθνών συνεδρίων, έχει συνεργαστεί με το ίδρυμα του F. Gulen για την προβολή και τη συνεργασία μεταξύ Μουσουλμάνων, Χριστιανών και Εβραίων, ενώ έχει συμμετάσχει στην Οργανωτική Επιτροπή του συνεδρίου για τη φιλία μεταξύ Ελλήνων και Τούρκων Δημοσιογράφων σε Αθήνα και Κωνσταντινούπολη (2000).
Κατά το διάστημα Απρίλιος-Ιούλιος 2004 ήταν υπεύθυνη του Γραφείου Τύπου του Γενικού Προξενείου του Αφγανιστάν στη Νέα Υόρκη και την περίοδο Νοέμβριος 2005-Ιούνιος 2007 ήταν Εκτελεστική Γραμματέας της Ελληνο-Αμερικανικής μη Κερδοσκοπικής Οργάνωσης «Ομοσπονδία Ελληνικών Σωματείων Μείζονος Νέας Υόρκης».
Έχει μόνιμη συνεργασία με την εταιρία γεωπολιτικών αναλύσεων Stratfor, με ιδιωτικές εταιρείες για έρευνες σε θέματα διεθνή και γεωπολιτικά, με αναλυτές σε αμερικανικά Think Tanks.
Despina Syriopoulou
She is a journalist and has graduated from the Department of Philology of the University of Ioannina, focused on classical philology. She holds a Master Degree of International Relations of New School in New York and has attended seminars on Systems Dynamics at Fordham University as well as seminars on religions and diversity for the needs of her position at God&Religion and InfoReligion Magazine.
She has excellent knowledge of American politics and Greek-American relations, as well as of the Hellenism of the Diaspora, with special emphasis on the Hellenism of America.
She has rich journalistic experience as from 2000 until today she has undertaken the coverage of issues of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs mainly for the Greek-Turkish relations, she has collaborated with the magazines “God & Religion”, “InfoReligions”, the Turkish political magazine “AKSIYON”, the Turkish newspaper “ZAMAN”, the newspapers: “ELEFTHEROS”, “AGGELIFOROS”, “O KOSMOS TOU EPENDYTI”, “PROTI”, “Queens Ledger”, the online TGAnews, and the magazines “PRESS”, “KLIK”, “POLITIKA THEMATA” , “NON PAPER”, “SYMBOL”, “Os3.
She has been a permanent correspondent for the newspaper “AXIA”, the radio station “Flash 96”, the newspaper Real News, the newspaper EPENDYTIS. She had a permanent cooperation with the political magazine “EPIKAIRA” and with the newspaper “ELEFTHEROS TYPOS”. Since 2008 she has been the Managing Director of the Greek American News Agency (& member of the Investigative team of the news agency) and since 2013 she has been the Managing Director of the online edition of the Greek-American newspaper neaproini.us.
She has also participated in the organization of international conferences, has collaborated with the foundation of F. Gulen for the promotion of the friendship and cooperation between Muslims, Christians and Jews, while she has participated in the Organizing Committee of the conference for the friendship between Greek and Turkish Journalists in Athens and Istanbul (2000).
From April to July 2004, she was responsible for the Press Office of the Consulate General of Afghanistan in New York, and from November 2005 to June 2007, she was Executive Secretary of the Greek-American non-profit organization “Federation of Hellenic Societies of the Greater New York, Inc”.
She has a permanent cooperation with the private company of geopolitical analyses Stratfor, with private companies for research on geopolitical and international relations issues and with analysts of American Think-Tanks.
